Making Possibilities out of Disablilities
I like coming to Funsworth, because I can spend time with friends, carers and having lots of fun. I like going to the Excursions, because I can go to lots of different places, have a happy fun time and meet friends and carers, so I am very excited.
I wish one day we can have train excursions and go on train journeys with the Funsworth members like Aiden, Harry, Tom, Richard, Aaron, Matthew, Dush, Simon, William and lots of different people around the Holdsworth Centre. (Alex) |

What Holdsworth means to me and my family. (Jan)
Number One would be the support we receive from the Centre.
- The social support my two children receive in accessing the fortnightly social outings groups, and the respite that provides to my husband and me.
- The same support the children receive through the School Holidays program. This gives them much greater opportunity to go out with support and form friendships, interact with the general community and see and do a lot more than I could manage by myself with two children with disabilities.
- The camaraderie and understanding I receive in attending the Creative Carers Group
Number Two is all the added little helps that come along every so often …. Family Camp, participation in the Westfield Charity Days, Carer Week Events, support for books for a Carers Library and the list goes on. The special things that help the budget, maintain the family sanity and generally give us peace. Also, further contacts and information that is passed along from the Carer network. |

"I have seen more of Sydney in the past 12 months than I have seen in 56 years of living here. It is such a pleasure to meet with friends each week and discover new destinations or revisit favourite places. I especially enjoyed visiting Lakemba Mosque, the Indian and Bahai Temples and all of the beautiful waterfront locations we have been to for lunch." ( Irena)
“Since joining Holdsworth my whole life has changed. I’m no longer a couch potato – I’m getting out of the house, mixing with new people and feeling positive about me again. I do so enjoy going on your trips, getting outdoors and sharing meals with friends. I feel better about myself and more interested in life generally.” (Carolyn) |
